Day by day
Day 1 — Entebbe/Kampala to Mbale & Sipi Falls Exploration
Depart Kampala or Entebbe early in the morning, driving east through the lush Mabira Forest and crossing the River Nile at Jinja. Arrive in Kapchorwa on the foothills of Mount Elgon by early afternoon. Check into your lodge and head out for a guided walk around the spectacular Sipi Falls—a series of three majestic waterfalls plunging over sheer cliffs amidst lush coffee plantations. Enjoy a spectacular sunset overlooking the Kyoga plains before a detailed briefing with your mountain guides.
Day 2 — Sasa Gate to Mude Camp (Elevation: 1,790m to 3,500m)
Transfer to the Sasa River Trailhead in Budadiri to register with the park authorities and meet your team of porters. Begin the trek with a steep climb through local community farmland before tackling the famous "Mudangi Cliffs" via secure metallic ladders. Enter the dense montane rainforest zone, keeping an eye out for black-and-white colobus monkeys and rare forest birds. As you rise past the bamboo zone, the trail levels out into the heather and moorland ecosystem. Arrive at Mude Cave Camp for dinner and your first night under the mountain stars.
Day 3 — Mude Camp to Wagagai Peak & Return to Mude (Elevation: 3,500m to 4,321m)
Awaken before dawn for your summit push. The path climbs steadily through beautiful fields of giant lobelias and groundsel plants unique to East Africa’s high-altitude mountains. Pass the rim of the massive, 40-kilometer-wide volcanic caldera before a final ascent to Wagagai Peak (4,321m). Enjoy sweeping, panoramic views stretching across the Ugandan and Kenyan borders. Take photos at the summit before descending back across the moorland plateau to Mude Camp for a warm evening meal and well-deserved rest.
Day 4 — Mude Camp Descent to Budadiri & Drive to Jinja
After breakfast, begin a scenic descent back down the mountain along the Sasa Trail, retracing your steps through the bamboo forests and down the cliffs to the Budadiri gate. Say goodbye to your guiding team and board your 4x4 land cruiser. Drive west toward the adventure town of Jinja, located at the Source of the Nile. Check into a relaxing riverside lodge to soothe tired muscles and celebrate your successful summit.
Day 5 — Source of the Nile Boat Excursion & Return to Kampala
Enjoy a relaxed morning breakfast by the river. Take a private motorboat excursion to the exact spot where the historic River Nile exits Lake Victoria to begin its long journey north. After the boat ride, embark on the final short drive back to Kampala or Entebbe International Airport for your evening departure flight.
